Last week Mrs. Anderson's 5th grade class came to read to our students. Both classes seemed to really enjoy it!

Parents...Just wanted to explain how Accelerated Reader works at JME. Each nine weeks the students are given a goal to meet by the end of the period. The students need to meet their goal with an 85% average and it has to be in their AR reading zone. I have created an AR folder for each child that has all of this information written down. If your child meets their goal at the end of the nine weeks they get to attend the AR party which was a sock hop for the first 9 weeks. Also, I allow the students to go to the library on a daily basis so each child has the ability to meet their goals. You may want to make sure your child is bringing home AR books, reading them, and taking tests each week. It makes them much better readers because the more practice they get the better reader they become.
